ok im new and would like to know if anyone has ever used those 30 dollar cheapies off ebay.im on a tight budget and cant afford a nice one right now.the one i bought says it meets ansi z87 standards.will it work fine for me now with my lincoln 175?thanks for the help, this site rocks, had some extension ??? and they got answered within 20 minutes.thanks again!!!!!
Reply:I'd say, if you don't get flashed and see green spots, it's OK. If you only paid 30 bucks for it, you can't go wrong. I use a speedglas (about 300 bucks) and I do believe the only difference is the bells and whistles.
Reply:I have 2 cheapies from harbor freight. They work great until I tried them with TIG. The sensors don't see the arc and they blink on and off. Usless for tig, but great for mig and stick.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:thanks for the info,i tried it out today and seems to work great.i do understand the "get what you pay for" though, the helmet is typical china junk.but it is just in my budget, for now.
Reply:Save the money for what will work. If you absolutely need an auto then wait. The junk masks are just that, junk. You will flash yourself and it will darken when a light is turned on, or someone rolls up a shop door and lets the sun in. You can get a 3-7-11 speedglass for 150 new and you may even find a better deal than that. Don't be in a hurry, get the right tools.Bill |
