Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some good places to get materials in the Seattle area. I'm in Shoreline, so places in the north end would be the most convenient for me. I'm mainly interested in scrap mild steel, though it'd be good to know of any nearby places that are good for small quantities of new stuff. Is somewhere between $0.20 - $0.30/lb a typical price for scrap steel? (I've been told that Pacific Industrial Supply sells scrap, but when I called them they said they only had new material, as well as cut-offs [from new] that they sell for the same price as new. Hrpm.)Thanks-JesseLast edited by jdosher; 03-02-2007 at 03:27 PM.
Reply:There is virtually nothing left in Seattle any more. Pacific Industrial just moved, and I think they scrapped a lot of stuff-  but I have been going there since about 1970, and they have never been cheap. There is one place in Snohomish, not too far from you- the guy is kinda cranky and wierd sometimes, but he does sell scrap-Whiteside Steel & Salvage, 17702 Hwy 9, Snohomish, 360-668-0533.There is Everett Steel, but I dont think they have much scrap.Skagit Valley Steel in Burlington, and Z metals on the Guide north of Bellingham have scrap for sale, but they are a ways from you. This is an interesting web page of links and info about Seattle metalworking, but it mostly tells the sad truth- of the scrap yards and used machine dealers that used to be around Seattle, they are almost all gone.http://dogpatch.com/bobp/bobfaq.htm
