Reply:This is a training/certification program developed by AWS, that certain schools are participating in.  You have to complete the training program through one of the participating schools.  AWS has a list of the schools.  AWS maintains a national registry of the certified welders.Below are some excerps from AWS."The AWS Schools Excelling through National Skills Education (SENSE) program began in 1993 with the award of a grant by the US Department of Education to develop a series of standards and a program for the recognition of welders based on welding performance testing and practical knowledge tests. The SENSE welder program is comprised of three levels: I—Entry Welder, II—Advanced Welder, and III—Expert Welder.""These tests require reading, computational and manual skills to complete."AWS documents, QC10, 11, and 12, define the requirements of written and performance testing to attain the three levels of certifcation, Entry, Advanced, and Expert Welder.AWS documents, EG2.0, 3.0, and 4.0, are curriculum guidelines for each level.I have access to look at these documents through work, but can't share them directly due to copyrights, so you would need to talk with people at AWS.I read through some of requirements for entry level welder, and actual weld testing includes GMAW-S, FCAW-G/GM, or FCAW-S, GMAW Spray Transfer, GTAW Carbon Steel, GTAW Stainless Steel, GTA Aluminum, SMAW.  There is also written testing on safety and general welding knowledge.Oh yea, "G" as in 3G vertical position, stands for Groove weld joint.  "F" is fillet weld joint.
