I have a chance to buy some Slick Necks for $300. I have to drive 3 hours one way to get them but I have been looking for a while and these are only a 1 1/2 years old. 336 cu.ft. Oxygen and 145 cu.ft Acetylene. The guys sounds genuinely nice and sincere. He says he bought them locally and is changing business so he needs to sell. He doesn't have the paperwork they gave him when he bought them.Does this sound like a good deal and am I safe to buy them and get them filled when I need to?Thanks,B-EBP.S. I am aware of Hydro requirements.
Reply:B-EB, I don't know man. It sure is a good deal though. I think before I drove down there I'd call my gas supply and ask if they would be willing to fill them for me. I think I also would ask if I could call the gas supply when I got there to describe any stickers or information on the tanks before I bought them.Just my thoughts.
Reply:I don't think my supplier has ever looked at my tanks. I bought a couple of old oxygen bottles from a guy and I painted them and had them filled. One place wouldn't fill them because they didn't have a sticker but the next place did.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:That's pretty much what I thought. All my dealings have been with leases. As long as they are slick I won't worry about it. I haven't seen them yet, but I wasn't aware they made an oxygen cylinder in 336cu.ft.Edit: What part of Middle Tenn are you from? I've got some old Marine Corps buddies from Tullahoma and Murfreesboro.
Reply:These are the bottles. I am planning on picking them up Sat. I haven't asked him for any numbers yet. I know the DOT number on the Oxy will tell me the size because of the rated pressure differences. Not sure about the Acet. because all Acetylene bottles are rated for the same pressure. I guess I will need a length from ground to top of cap to make that determination. It is supposed to be a 145cu.ft. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I called and talked to the local Oxygen Co. and they won't have any problem taking my money as long as the set of bottles I bring the first time doesn't have another companies ring on them. Reply:Over the last 2 years, my suppliers have become increasingly more strict about what they fill. I wouldn't take a chance. As stated, make sure somebody will fill them before purchasing.
Reply:The whole thing is such BS. I was in Denver, CO and I bought tanks as that was the preferred method of my choices. Moved to Arizona and the thing to do was lease tanks....ugh. No consistency. So I trade mine into the AZ company for half what I paid the CO company and then pay full price for a lease. The good thing is that my dealer (who has had my business for 10 years now)never questions anything I bring to get filled. I found an acetylene bottle that was full, but fell off another truck right in front of me (HVAC guys). The valve was bent all cockeyed from the fall. My dealer swapped it out. No questions asked. I found a huge O2 tank in the desert that also fell off a truck. I knew where it came from (Railroad guys), and they are so careless, and didn't notice, I kept the tank. Dealer swapped that out too. So it is my estimation that if I found a good deal on tanks, I would buy them. But I don't know what your dealer is like either.Whether or not I should have returned the tanks to their owners is moot. They should have secured the cylinders before putting other people on the road at serious risk of death or injury. Reply:I know it is hard to tell, can anyone give me a good idea of the capacity of the two tanks above?

Reply:The Oxygen cylinder is a "K" size, which is 244 cubic feet. The Acetylene cylinder is a "W" or "WSN" (meaning with cap) and holds roughly 140 cubic feet.
Reply:Thanks Folks.
Reply:I picked up the cylinders today, rated for overfill and 8 years left on Hydro. Y'all have a good one.
