Can someone give me a brief idea of what the AWS D1.1 standardsencompass. I don't expect the whole thing I just need to know in general before I pay out about $400.00 for the book. Does it have any X-ray orload test provisions in it is my main concern.
Reply:I am not sure what you are after. I don't have a D1.1 in front of me since I am in Canada. Our equivalent code outlines requirements to meet the code. The code does not give very much design criteria in terms of size of members etc for loads. If you are really concerned then you can take a look at a code book at any library at an engineering school/college. Most people purchase the code book because they have to conform to the rules set out in it. You should determine to what code you are building to. If you are building pressure vessels then you need ASME codes. There are even specific codes for Railway bridges. And don't start specifying code requirements because it seems the thing to do.... unless you are willing to pay more for the article. I have suffered under those kind of whims.
