Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! We were having a discussion at lunch today about stick preference for thicker steel (.312 to .750 in and out of possition). Many of the guys like that MG 500 while I like 7018 or certanium. I was just wondering If you guys had a "goto" stick when situations enable a wider choice?
Reply:9 times out of 10 i tig everything together..but if i must stick something 7018 is all i ever use......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:7018 all the way! I love that clean puddle.
Reply:Another vote for 7018 here.
Reply:6013 cos i can get that slag to curl right off.
Reply:Up here in washington I like 6010 or 6011 because everything is wet, rusty, dirty etc. But in ideal situations I will go to 7018 all the way.
Reply:Not really fussy, I prefer stick to Mig but will use whatever is available.
Reply:Since you didn't say it was anything special, other than thick, I'd be using common 7018, too.
Reply:I stock 6010, and XX18 for most repairs.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I prefer TIG, but 6010 for open roots, and 7018 fill most of the time, especially when stringers are to be run. I do like running 3/32 6013 though, and it's a great all around rod.
