Can a 250 amp tig torch be used at 350 amps if we use antifreeze coolant to cool the torch?
Reply:I doubt the coolant mixture will make a difference. Antifreeze is used for, well, to keep it from freezing, not to make it have better cooling abilities. Otherwise, an antifreeze mixture would be the norm and all torches would already be rated for its use anyway.
Reply:DO NOT use antifreeze to cool your torch.... use the coolant that is designed for welding set ups only... anitfreeze often has agents designed to plug up leaks, and in a TIG torch can plug up the tiny passages.and as far as running 350 amps on your torch... maybe for a very short time... but unless you can fit a tungsten bigger than 1/8" diameter in it you probably can't do it.-----------------------Carmen Electrodewww.CarmenElectrode.comand the boss blogs at www.JoeWelder.comall powered by www.Arc-Zone.com
Reply:Water transfers more heat than antifreeze. In racing, water is used for max cooling. There are some additives such as Water Wetter that breaks the surface tension of the water for better heat transfer. I cannot see Water Wetter hurting your pump, hoses or torch.
Reply:350 Amps...250 Rated torch..=http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread...light=MeltdownAnd it won't take long.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Try it. I wouldn't though. It will end up like my air-cooled torch. My friend overpowered it with too little gas and fused all the components inside together. $150 down the drain.
