I have a Lincoln Pro mig 180 Im wanting to get gas running through. I was in Lowes(bet you know where this is going already) and saw they had some bottles of CO2 that contained 9 oz. I was curious as to it these will hook up to my machine or do they need a special adaptor? Also, I am not up on conversions so I don't know what 9 oz. is equivalent to in welding bottle CF conversions. They want 23.00 a piece for them. Is that a good price? I have pasted a link to look at the product I am talking about. Thanks for your help.Whiteyhttp://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...84295-1592-PB8
Reply:I'm no expert but I think you're on the wrong track with those.  Go to your local welding supply and see what they have for a bottle.   For example:  I just got a 60CF bottle for $135.00 filled.  After that it will only cost me $19.00 to refill.      The bottle you are looking at will only last a few min even if you could get it connected.    I am not up on my conversions but I belive 9oz isn't even close to 1CF.Come try it out and stay a while.
Reply:Rustywrangler is right. Just go to a welding shop and buy a bottle. For hobby work only- you'll get by with a 40-60cfm bottle. Want to do an entire bumer at once, or multiple projects before you reload on gas??The 80cfm bottle cost almost the same as the 60, and you can weld for a while before you have to refill. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:CO2 is sold by the pound. I use a  20 pound cylinder on my Lincoln Mig. It holds enough liquid C02 to generate 160 cu. ft. of gas for welding. ( 1 pound of C02 = 8 cu.ft. of gas.) It's about $23 to get an exchange refill. The 20 pound clyinder is much shorter than a 160 Cu. ft. gas cylinder although it has a larger outside diamater - about 8". I lke C02 very much for my home hobby work. I use Nozzle gel and stop to clean the tip frequently and I get very little spatter. I would definitely go to a LWS and buy a bottle to exchange like others say.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
Reply:I use paintball cylinders in my Passport, and can go through several per shift, which is why I fill my own from a bulk 50# tank.  It's all or nothing if you convert to this, though I've not seen anyone try it yet; would be interesting.
