I wear contacts right now. Should I plan on going back to glasses as a welder? Thinking about fumes and heat.In College for welding.Learning 6010 first.passed butt weld, lap, lap multipass, t-weld I have a Campbell Hausfeld Farmhand 125 (only used fluxcore sofar).
Reply:I have used contacts when welding, I don't do it anymore and wouldn't remomend it.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I wear them all day, every day. However, I also wear full wrap safety glasses as well. I think that helps cut down.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:If you're going to do metal work you'll need safety glasses any way. It really doesn't cost all that much to get a pair prescription safety glasses made.

Reply:I've had a few friends wear contacts while welding, and two of them saved some eye damage by having them in.  One was saved from a piece of hot slag, the other from grinding debris that made it past the safety glasses.
Reply:I've been welding for 13 years.....The last 10 or so I've always had contacts.Never had any problems. Always wear safety glasses
Reply:Lasik...  I wore glasses since I was two years old.  Got contacts when I was 13 and lasik when I was 20.  Never welded with glasses OR contacts, but this is the way to go IMO.
Reply:I'd probably go with contacts with comfortable safety glasses. Non-prescription safety gasses cost a LOT less than prescription safety glasses, and they will get banged up over time.  Wear the safety glasses ALL the time in the shop, even nder the welding shield. Rephrase- especially under the welding shield.
Reply:About 20 years or so ago there was something going around that in the event of arc flash the UV light could make the contact break down and stick to the eye. A few years ago I asked my eye doctor about it. He said that he had never heard of it happening. On the other hand if the fumes from welding irritate your eyes it will be worse with contacts in.  My prescription can't be made into a contact so I'm stuck with glasses.

Reply:I guess it isa do as you wish. I love my contacts, and my allergyies are better with them in. I keep glasses on hand for those days my eyes are bothering me now. So i guess i will continue the same. thanks for the anvice. I have had brake fluid and a rock both in my eye, I think the contact helped in both cases. In College for welding.Learning 6010 first.passed butt weld, lap, lap multipass, t-weld I have a Campbell Hausfeld Farmhand 125 (only used fluxcore sofar).
