First post here ...I own a Mig Millermatic 140 - works pretty well.... however, I'm looking to weld together some aluminium pieces .... most of the work is going to be in done on thin aluminium tubing.... my question is what does the welding community recommend; can I get away with just using a miller spoolmate 100 or do I need to upgrade and get a TIG? The welds need to be strong ...ThanksJohn
Reply:Tig would be the best for thin tubing. A used or rebuild ACHF unit with air cooled Torch is all thats needed. JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:If your tubing is thinner than 1/8" I would not even consider a spool gun. Personally I think a spoolgun on a 140 amp machine would be very limited in capability. It's difficult to weld Aluminum under 1/8" with no pulse option and you don't have enough power for anything much thicker that has any mass to it.
