I have to spend some money for tax purposes before the end of the year and I'm stuck. I'm a red leaning guy but that Trailblazer looks tough to beat. For those of you currently running engine drives, what would you buy right now if you were in a position to buy new ?? Prejudices aside...what are the real Pros and Cons between these two with the Kohler engine. The AC Tig isn't really an advantage because I would carry a portable inverter that can plug into either of them. I'd rather pack a power cord than the extra equipment. Locals are telling me that as a generator, the blue is cleaner than the red. Anything else ? I'm all ears, Thanks !!Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:i've been extremely pleased with my trailblazer. if you plan on bringing an inverter why not just get a generator? i run my plasma cutter with my trailblazer and wouldn't hesitate to plug my inverter into it either. BUT, and i hate to say this, if your a red man it might make more sense to stick with one brand, its nice to have everything interchangeable, things like spoolguns, foot pedal etc. my only lincoln is a cheapie from HD that i bought only so i could plug into 115v and go, i hate it, but now is not the time to denigrate into red vs blue...
Reply:As for the inverter I'd plug and play same as you do your plasma, it would mainly be used indoors. The engine drive would mainly do stick out in the fields and sites without easy access to power. I don't do wire anymore unless it's supplied onsite. SMAW and GTAW is about all I'm looking at. The price of a decent American built generator is half or more of the cost of welder, that's my reasoning for an engine drive.Edit; Oh Yeah, an important point I forgot to mention, engine drive will also do my carbon arc work. I figure that as a given but should be noted for anyone offering help.Last edited by olddad; 11-27-2007 at 08:06 PM.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:I've had a 251 trailblazer for about 9 years now with nary a problem so I guess I would have to stick with Miller if I was upgrading.
Reply:I have used both and I feel the Miller has a better arc. And the Miller is quieter than the Lincoln and God knowes we tierd of hearing that all day. I have the Bobcat 3 only because of the 3phase part otherwise I would Have a Trailblazer like my friends. Steel Thunder Welding LLC.
