i always used lincoln innershield nr 211 mp fluxcore wire 1lb spool for my lincoln weldpak. i saw cyber weld has hobart fluxcore wire 2lb spool. its only 14.40 for the hobart 2lb and usually buy the linclon for about 11.00 for a 1 pound. which is the better wire? thanks
Reply:I use either 211 or Fabshield 21B Hobart, they are both good self shielding wires.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Check the AWS #, if they are the same, there is no difference.   JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :

Reply:They are both good wires, but to say they are the same isn't right. They both have subtle differences as well as very different max thicknesses. That is just like saying all 70S-6 wires are the same......which is as far from the truth as one can get.If the Hobart is Fabshield 21B, it will be "comparable" to NR-211. Fabshield 23 will not be the same type or class. The AWS number you want to look for is 71T-11. That is what NR-211 is and what you want to look for. IMO, it is a much better wire than the 71T-GS, like the Fabshield 23. Interesting thing is Lincoln doesn't make a 71T-GS wire. NR-212 is close, but it is a 71T-GG wire...and a MUCH better wire. Some even like it better than the 211. The 212 I ran welded very nicely.
Reply:I just bought a roll of Hobart plain jane e71t-11, BTW. Seems to run pretty fair. Close enough to the fabshield for the dinking around I do. It doesn't get a fancy nick name like the fabshield, just stock numbers, and they vary depending on the wire dia and roll size. Got it at TSC and even at that it was priced on par with a LWS. No big savings. The savings is in buying the larger rolls. Those 4" reels look like  budget buster in the long run.
Reply:I have been hearing good things about teh TSC Hobart wire. May have to just try a roll out one day to compare. I think all f/c wire is a budget buster. My last roll of 1/16 Fabshield 21B ran a tad over 115 bucks for a 25#er.
Reply:[QUOTE=Sandy]Sure, good enough. Don't wanna pry anything out you don't want to offer. After working for years for two welding consumables co's, if it's a 7018, 71T-1 and etc., the chemestry is the same, the biggest difference is in the machines, they are run on Different Volt/Amp curves, short circuit current, OCV, Slope, Inductance.  Same AWS# on wires have the same chemestry, but machine Mfg's have different ideas on how a machine should run.  That is the biggest difference.  John G.   SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:That doesn't explain how two different 7018's will run differently on the same machine.  They run differently because they are slightly different, but still within AWS conformance specs for that particular class. Hobart 418 and Excaliber 7018 for example. They do not run remotely the same on my machine, but both are AWS 7018. Same with 70S-6 wires. They all conform, but they all run differently, some slightly, some not so slightly...on the same machine. Reason can only be slight differences in recipe.
Reply:How much of that wire is subcontracted out to consumable producers inforeign countries and labled here in the US, and what about quality control? The protective coating on solid steel wire must differ-just put two sections ofwire(same diameter and AWS#) from two different companies out in the weather and see if one dosen't start oxidizing first. It makes a difference if you live in humid Louisiana. I learned my lesson after throwing out a couple of old rolls that I had stored in the barn.
Reply:Esab, Hobart and I'm not sure about Lincoln anymore, are drawn in the US.  JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:I had the same debate a while back over 6011/6013.  "6011 provides better penetration than 6013."    Yeah, and if I ever have a 6013 weld break it'll be because my frame was run over by a train.   For what I do, 6011 isn't the least bit necessary.             I worked for years having to adhere to MIL specs and P specs, T specs and all that foo foo.      If you're building your grandkid a go cart frame or your wife a flower planter, use what you like the best.   If you're building space shuttle parts, well I suppose you should trust the engineers and metallurgists.Down in my shop I have a wonderful tool I use a lot.  Common sense.Buy a roll and try it.
