I bought a Hobart hood about two years ago. It seemed fine but is getting flakey lately. It's gotten so that it will not always turn off after a weld. I have plenty of 8' florescent lights in my shop. Not really THAT bright. I sometimes need to shade the lens with my hand to force it off. During a run now it seems to turn off for an instant then come back on. Needless to say, when it goes clear for a quarter second then dark again I'm blind for a few seconds running a bead. A little frustrating. I bought it from Northern tool for $90. It's at the low end of their line. Not adjustable. I place it in the sun occasionally to charge the battery but it still gets confused in the middle of a weld and turns itself off. Maybe I need a better one? New battery? Have any of you guys ever had one that does this?
Reply:Try a new battery first. Also, make sure your cover lens is clean and nothing is blocking the view of the light sensors or solar cells. If those 2 dont cure it, it's probly time for a new lens cartridge. Don't keep welding with it if it's flashing you when it's suppose to be dark.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:It's time for a new one. JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:Yes I think so. There is no replaceable battery. There is no way to access it without destroying the case. Shame, it worked so well and I really liked having it. Everything's gotta crap out sometime.
Reply:Sorry it worked out that way for ya. I hate it when expensive things are made to be disposable....MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
