pro weld cutting outfit

i just ordered a pro weld medium duty cutting outfit from northern tool, does anyone know anything about this brand and does anyone know what brand tip it uses

Reply:I agree with not getting the one from NT....a friend of mine picked a set up....he was using it and someone had to yell at him to tell him the tubes were glowing red......the regs were not working properly and the torch head wasn't built right allowing the gas to burn back into the torch tubes....also you can find the firepower sets for less $http://cgi.ebay.com/VICTOR-FIREPOWER...QQcmdZViewItem
Reply:I am not trying to bash anyones torches or other tools.  I've just been at this type of business for many years.   It almost always is less expensive in the long run to buy Quality Name brand tools.  Now when it comes to which brand that can get into an arguement like rival football teams.  LOL  I happen to preferr Oxweld.  It's what I learned with.   I own & sometimes use a victor set & a Harris set.  All 3 cut about equally. I just like the Oxweld best.  Most of my work is heavy stuff though,  3/8" & up.     If you are working with tiny stuff like jewelery harris makes a tiny little set that's market standard for that.   In this area seems most other welding shops use Victor with Oxweld running a close second.For heavy Industrial usage when you get to needing specialty tips, lance wands etc. You have to go with either Oxweld or Victor. They manufacture a tip for any concievable use. Just go on their websites & look at what they have to offer. every kind of fuel gas, Acet, mapp, propane, propolene. Every type, heating, cutting gouging/scarfing, lancing. to many to list.

Reply:I have a Purox (Union Carbide) W-300  I bought in high school that I still have and use almost daily. I also have a Victor 315 setup I bought at a pawn shop that has to be 40 years old, that also sees regular service. Buy a good torch, and your grandkids will be using it.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
