anybody  have fire pit plans trying to build a outdoor fire pit for an ffa project thanks
Reply:grab some pipe, cut it in half length-wise, then cap the ends... throw on some legs and there you go... want some more specific plans? lemme know... i got AutoCAD... what are the dimensions that you are looking to fill? Budget, time constraints, equipment available, etc. are all good things to post too.Later,Andy
Reply:ok i was thinking some kind of oktigon shape with a top or cover,i have an idea but thought some plans would help.maybe 30 inches or 40 inches around not far off the ground with an exspanded metal cover to keep the embers in tact,i have millirmatic 220 mig, hypotherm plazma 40 amps, tourch, chopsaw, limited funds, maybe 3 or 4 hundred bucks thanks
Reply:what kinda material you want? SS is nice, but REALLY expensive and you'd probably burn you budget with just that expanded you were talking about. 40 inches is pretty big too... how big of a praty/fire are you planning on burning in this thing? i'm making a BBQ out of a 55 gallon drum... 24x36 grate (approximate size)... it'll hold about 6 logs... i can make it as big as you want, but i would price out material before you try to get plans... let me know how much you can spend on metal and how far it will go... figure in a 20' length of tube (1"x1"x16 ga square tube will be plenty strong... supplier price is about $8.50 or $9.00 as of a couple weeks ago) and the rest can go towards your other stuff... figure a 40"x40" section of expanded... i would look into some SS screen material, rather than expanded tho... the expanded is pretty big for keeping embers in check.Later,Andy
Reply:here are two i did what dimensions did you have in mind? Attached Images
Reply:nice pits rusty... those look better than i could have imagined... i never thought about doing much of the trim work on it... i especially like the first one... is that SS?Later,Andy
Reply:up im not looking for ss just regular metal heres a pic of something like im looking for but with a cover, probably the very bottom would be 1/4 inch so it doesnt burn out but i think the sides could be 1/8th Attached Images
Reply:cool... i'll see what i can get for you tonight... if i get bored at work, i'll get it started... good idea too... i really like the griddle and rack idea.Later,Andy
Reply:To get the dome shapes try finding an old water tank at you local scrapyard. Use the ends for top and bottom. Cut unique shapes into the ring you cut out of the center of the tank to use as the sides of your fire pit. ThanksGene
Reply:got some basic plans started at work... forgot to e-mail them home... i'll try to get them done tomorrow over lunch. what kind of lid to you want? domed? i'm thinking that a piece that is broke in a few spots would work well... think of 8 slices of pizza... the crust end would be laying at the edge of the pit and the center corners would be stacked together at the middle... it's hard to explain, but it'll make sense when i'm done... i think the water-heater idea would be good, but the size of this thing is a bit big for that idea to work... flat side to opposing flat side (not corner to opposing corner) is 40"... 18" off the ground using 8 tubes (1x1x16 ga square tube). 2x2x1/4" angle welded on the bottom for extra strength and 10 ga metal for the sides... i will plan on 1/4" for the bottom. the walls are 6" high and i will make a few little holders (probably 4 to keep everything looking symetrical) for the griddles and grates you had shown us before. let me know if there is anything else you think you may want.Later,Andy
Reply:I like the grill/fire pit in the picture it has everything you need most importantly a bottle of Shiner Bock.  Recently moved from Houston to Atlanta and I haven't found a source for Shiner yet.  Good luck on the fire pit project building one is on my to do list.
Reply:man that sounds like you hit the nail right on the head, those plans sound like just what im looking for . the pizza word i would think of would be octogon and thats what im looking for ,,,by the way thanks for all your help
Reply:wife just informed me we cant use the griddle or grill attachments for the ffa show it has to be an outdoor fire pit because its classified in outdoor conviences not outdoor cookers which the bbq pit my sons building is in.were still good just cant do the griddle attachments,(i can always add them after the show)just dont want them compeeting against each other thanks
Reply:There is a guy on the Dallas Craigslist selling a 250 gallon propane tank for 80 bucks.  Cut one end off, add trim around it to make it look nice, then use the rest of the tank for a BBQ smoker.Contact me for any metal polishing needs you may have, my avatar is a pic of a standard, painted fire axe that I ground, sanded polished and buffed to a mirror finish.
Reply:here's what i got so far... i wanna get it drawn in 3D tonight at home, or at least this weekend (no 3D at work)...http://microzone.us/weldingforum/ind...=22.msg138#newi didn't put dimensions on it, but they are what i said before... 40" across, 6" walls, etc.I also threw on a handle (3/8" round bar) that is slightly higher than the point on the lid... that way, yuo can throw on a piece of wood or metal and use it as a table when you are not burning in it.feel free to let me know what you think... i can change anything on it... i'll get you a cut-sheet and material list when we finalize the plans.Later,Andy
Reply:well i suppose diverting everyones attention to boobies and kitties is one way of making a problem go away.
Reply:@#$%!!!!! well... i feel like a douche... anyway, here's the link to the picture...http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...epit-Model.jpgSorry about that... the link must not have copied.Later,Andy
Reply:i think were on theright tract it was a little hard to see the picture on photo bucket but what i saw looked great thanks again for your help

Reply:Make sure you put handles on it so you can move it easily and handles on the top This was made out of 1/8" Angle, expanded &  Gauge - I can't recall what size as it was a few years ago and belongs to a friend- 1/4" gonna be overkill. No burn through
Reply:here ya' go... i have the .DWF and .DWG files, and can get them in .PDF, .JPG and a few others... let me know if you need anything changed or if you want me to send them to your e-mail... they are bigger than the 150 KB limit on the forum, so i can't attach them, even as a .ZIP file.Later,Andy
Reply:As far as I know Shiner is only available in TX and maybe a few specialty stores in neighboring states...... you need to get someone to ship you a few cases.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X

Reply:I guess it falls on deaf ears. I told 'em 2 places here in ATL to buy it. Maybe their just an elitist dropping a name they heard at a party "at band camp".MmmmmmmmmmmmBeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGooooooooooo  oodddd!!!!Thanks for the info on where to get Shiner around Atlanta.  I brought some back form Texas on my last trip down in December.  I am just getting back/recovering from the Holidays and catching up on the this site.  Sorry to be so long acknowledging your  response to my question.
