Reply:I think it could be done with some 309 filler and you'd have to grind the coating off of the steel --Gol'
Reply:I know I would not do it, but let us know how it comes out and Pics would be nice.   JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:Nothing to it! It's just mild steel with an aluminum coating, kinda like galvanizing. Just grind off the aluminum and weld with 309, or 70s-2 even.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:You can do it with mild steel, it just rusts out quicker.
Reply:I agree with removing the aluminize coating from the carbon steel side.  Assuming this is part of the exhaust system, I suggest Inconel filler metal--ERNiCr-3 or any of the "82" grades.  Otherwise, due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between stainless and carbon steel, the repeated heating and cooling cycles can cause a crack to develop where the two meet.  I would definitely avoid using ER70S-2 on stainless steel; more cracking.
