Ammonia pipe?

Has anyone here heard of ammonia pipe?Its for the restaurant business...right? weld it like you own it

Reply:Lewray, yes, it is a cooling system. Works on the same principles as freon, basically. But it often heats with nat. gas. Yes, it is some caustic nasty stuff. I have, in the past, pulled sections of coils from big chiller systems, and sent them out to be repaired and pressure tested. I have never welded it myself. I am not sure of how much cleaning needs to be done before you can weld on it. We avoided it because the hazard rating was pretty high, and the boss had a shop who specialized in it.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:Had a job with Kroger once.  Never again.  Just the corrosion factor on my equipment was bad enough to keep me from fooling with it again.  To be honest though, I had no idea what I was getting into.Anything can be fabricated on-site. Truth is fabricated online.

Reply:We do ammonia at a couple of different plants. A106 seamless pipe 3,000lb fittings. Insurance for working on ammonia is unreal. It cost more than insurance for power house work.
