Ok guys I am thinking about building a small crank up tower for my truck.  It will be aluminum and the sections will be about 6'6" tall and equal about 25' extended.  Basically it is a lot of cutting and Tigging.  The design is simple and basic.  I was thinking I could make a notching jig for the drill press, and a jig to hold all the parts in place, tack it all up and weld away...I already have a 60' version of the tower, I was going to copy it just make more sections.http://www.alumatower.com/new/telescoping.htmlDoes anyone see any "things" I am missing that would be a problem? Me!

Reply:Can you put Comm. Equipment on a 25' sectioned tower without making the truck fall over (I'm assuming you know what you are doing and don't expect to drive with this up).

Reply:It will take many many joints prepped and welded, it probably isn't worth the time.
Reply:It's fine if you really want to do i. The only negative would be if you have employees and someone is injured on it. I think it would be more cost-effective to rent such a unit when needed.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
Reply:I am considering doing it since to buy it will be about $5000.000.  I know it will take a LONG time to make but thats a LOT of TIG practice As far as safety, I am using the same specs of one rated at 13x the wind load and twice the hight, so I am not concerned about that.I need to come up with a part count and figure out what the stock $$$ would be .  That alone may stop me...Me!
