Ok, whay do you guys think of 2 weeks from tomorrow - the 23rd of Feb for the Georgia Welding Confab?  I don't believe I have any prior plans for that day yet...What timeframes do y'all like?  I figure I can get away for about 6 hours max on a weekend, so maybe something like 10:00 - 4:00?  Like I mentioned before I have a Lincoln Idealarc Tig 300/300 on pure argon, the XMT 300 CC/CV with wirefeeder set up for MIG, and a bad*** 90amp Esab plasma cutter.  I can also bring in the old Powcon 300 stick/tig inverter.  There are plenty of other cool shop toys such as the mandrel bender to keep us from getting bored.  Oh, and I suppose I should pull out the pulser for the XMT and give it a try! (Dave R should approve of that idea!)I would personally be interested in seeing some other gasses such as 98/2 and helium to play with spray on the MIG and higher heat on the tig.  I only have one pair of bottles right now, and haven't ventured away from the standard 75/25 and pure.  I also wouldn't mind playing with some stick welding.  I have a bunch of 6013 if I remember right that's getting pretty old, but really don't have much need for stick and haven't done it since I had to in school about 16 years ago! (I think that's how old the rods are, btw!)  It also wouldn't hurt if people could bring some of thier own scrap to weld on.  Most of what I have at my shop is thin wall tubing, which isn't the best to practice welding on.Let me know what you think of the proposed date.  It isn't set in stone until several find it works for them.Jason
Reply:Shoooot! First on the confirm list! I can bring mild steel. Inch and a quarter-1/8" angle and 1" to 1-1/2" square tube.I would like to see Al welded if possible.Oh yah. Times and date are fine too.Last edited by petersenj20; 02-09-2008 at 09:03 PM.Reason: Confirmed timeMmmmmmmmmmmmBeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGooooooooooo  oodddd!!!!
Reply:I'm pretty sure I can do that...I'm in.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I'll have PLENTY of roll cage tubing (1.75 OD x .090 wall DOM) that we can notch and practice welding around tubes.  But, that's about all I have to practice on.  I'm in the middle of completely re-organizing and deep cleaning the shop, so I'll post pics of it next week when I'm done.  Here's a list of the bigger equipment in the shop besides the welding equipment listed above so you know what we've got to work with:Oxy-acetalyne torch20hp 5" OD mandrel bender2" rotary draw bender tube expanderhorizontal mill dedicated to tube notchingBridgeport vertical millsmall mill/drillLogan 12 x 48 latheWilton 6 x 48 belt sanderScotchman cold sawRockwell 16" vertical bandsawabrasive chop sawbead blasterand a 10,000lb lift in case there's a quick exhaust repair neededI'm going to have to add a couple of breakers and outlets to run a couple more welders at the same time.  Since it's just me in the shop it hasn't been much of an issue in the past! So, anyone have a Miller Dynasty or similar high tech tig?  I wouldn't mind trying one of those out as well...
Reply:Surely there's a few more....
Reply:I can make it for sure.   I'll bring the 98/2 for spray and some scrap pieces. Sounds like you have all of the equipment needed.Wes
Reply:Comon' You Guys!!!Lets go!!Do it if you can..There is nothing like top notch pointers right in front of you..Plus the chance to play with stuff you don't have.........Yet..GO!!!It's a good time.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Ok, I'm still alive.  Just now getting back online after a few months being out of pocket working.  I'll be there, and bring both of my portable setups that can be used for O/A cutting and gouging, and stick.  I'll bring plenty of rods 7018, 6010, and 6013, and plate in varying thickness as well for cutting and welding.  Sorry, for being away guys, but I should be back to my normal time around the forums now that things have settled down.  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I have a 300sm powcon and a suitcase (currently set up for single phase).  Just say the word and I'll bring it.  I can also toss in a bit of 75/25 to help defray the costs of consumables for the host.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I'll try my best to get there. It shouldn't be a problem.I'll bring some scrap to play with.Have you got a plasma? Should I bring mine?Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Yep, I've got a 90 amp Esab plasma in my shop, so we can cut about anything we want until we overheat the breaker!  Right now I've got it on a 50 amp welder outlet, which works fine for quick cuts at high amps or longer cuts at lower amps.  When I need serious cutting power I hardwire it straight into the panel.Smithboy - the extra bottle of 75/25 might not be a bad idea since I don't have a very good bottle program going right now.  I get the refills cheap, but only have 2 bottles of my own.  I'll see about renting an extra pair - been meaning to anyway - but at the moment I'm limited to 125 c.f. of pure and 125 c.f. of 75/25.  I guess it depends on what shows up and how many mig machines we decide to run at once.  I'm looking forward to playing with dawgfan's gas and seeing what spray is all about!  I've got the power to do it, just never had the gas.Oh, and I also found a spool of Esab Dual shield .045 wire while I was sorting the shop out over the weekend we can play with.  Hammack - glad to see you back around!  Looks like it was just in time to not miss the gathering you basically started!Jason
Reply:Ok, so far we have:1.  Me - Jason (tubularfab) - shop, mig, tig, plasma, bender, scrap tubing2.  PetersenJ20 - mild steel3.  Smithboy - maybe mig, maybe 75/254.  Dawgfan52 - 98/2, scrap steel5.  Hammack - everything! welders, electrodes, etc6.  Joe H - scrap7.
Reply:I'm in for the 23rd, just cleared it with the 1st Sgt.  I can bring some steel, mild, cold and hot rolled and maybe even some pre-hardened if anyone wants to play with pre-heating. I also have a bit of scrap aluminum 18 ga to 3/4" thick. Have a little bit of stainless, different thicknesses, and some cast titanium if yall wanna get real wild . Have a full 75/25 and a full argon as well as o/a bottles if needed. Also have some extruded aluminum if anyone would like to see why you don't weld extruded aluminum with a spool gun.Let me know if there is anything else, I might have or can get it.ScottMiller 225GLincoln 215Magnum Spool GunA/O RigIf I can step over it, I can weld it!

Reply:I doubt I could give many MIG pointers. I just point and shoot. It must be the alloy of the extrusions you have. All of the extrusions we get are 6061.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:I may be able to make it.  I also may be able to wrangle up up some 1/4" plate.

Reply:where exactly in ga is thisComplete Fabrication Shop specializing in pipe fabrication. Also offering heavy steel fabrication and sheet metal work.
Reply:I guess I didn't post that on this thread.  The shop is about 1/2 mile from Road Atlanta and Lanier Raceway if you know where they are.Take exit 129 (GA 53) on I-85 which is about 30 miles north of Atlanta.Go west on 53 about 4 miles and the shop will be in a small business park on the left.  If you see racetracks you went about 1/2 mile too far.  The shop is on the front row facing the road - Tubular Fabrication, LLC.Shop number (770) 967-8265

Reply:I also have a TD Cutmaster 52 plasma that I could bring if anyone wants to try it out.  I thought I would bring two rolls of dualshield wire also.  I have used the Hobart Excel-Arc but I want to try a new roll of Triple-7.  Maybe it would be good to compare them a little bit.  Wes
Reply:Ok guys, , I will only be able to bring one service rig as the other will have to be on a job, but I will have my truck with two miller bobcats, O/A torches with cutting, welding, and gouging tips.  A hypertherm 30, scratch start tig set up, and I'll bring varying thicknesses of steel from pipe scraps to plates from 1/8" to 1" thick.  I'll have 10 pounds each of 1/8" & 3/32" 7018,  1/8" & 3/32" 6013, 1/8" & 3/32" 6010 on the truck for anyone wanting to play with some rods.  Look forward to meeting you guys there.  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......Would one of you Carrollton boys mind picking up a carpooler? Reply:petersenj20,I'm not sure what my itenerary is just yet (Kids' Friday and weekend sports), but between me and Hammock, we should be able to get you there.  Just keep in mind, I have a camry and will be bringing a tank of 75/25 and maybe a mig setup and maybe my wife (collateral shopping trip)...might be cramped.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

Reply:Ok, the final list:1. Me - Jason (tubularfab) - shop, mig, tig, plasma, bender, scrap tubing2. PetersenJ20 - mild steel3. Smithboy - maybe mig, maybe 75/254. Dawgfan52 - 98/2, scrap steel5. D110pickup - some steel10.Badass5.511.scubaholic ??12.Heatman??That looks like a good size group for this.  I assume everyone saw the directions above, and knows how to get there by now.  If you have any trouble call me at 770 967 dash 8265.  A couple of simple ground rules:* let's keep the alcohol out of the shop - no need for that making potentially dangerous tools more dangerous* I'd rather not have any of the shop equipment used without asking first* let's just be safe!  I didn't make a provisions for lunch, but there are a couple of fast food places around the corner that you'll pass on the way in.  We can just send a couple of guys over to pick stuff up or whatever. And the rest we can figure out as we go.  I am considering this an "open source" welding class where everyone contributes thier talent and learns from the others.I have 4 main "welding" tables in the shop.  One is 5' x 6' and gets used for MIG, stick, cutting, etc.  This is the only table for the "messier" processes.  The 3 others are ok for TIG only as I don't want to mess up the tops.  One is blanchard ground, the other 2 are mill finish.  I never got much done in the way of wiring the shop like it needs to be.  Since it's just me I've been making due with only a couple welder outlets.  These are the usual 50amp one that looks like a normal plug on steriods.  If we need to we can hardwire in anything bigger tomorrow.  I have one 50' 50amp extension cord, so if you guys have others handy that would be great.I didn't make it to the LWS this week to smap out my 75/25 bottle.  It is a 250 cuft and has about 500 psi left in it.  It is a bottle I own, and they won't just swap it, so it is a pain to deal with.  My 125 cuft pure bottle is abvout 1/2 full if I remember right.  That should be enough gas to play around a good bit anyway.I don't have a lot of helmets, safety glasses, gloves, etc, so everyon bring your own.  Most of this stuff is personal gear anyway, so you are probably already planning that.See you tomorrow!
Reply:Mine is 80 cf and has 1600psi...it should do a while.  It's a tractor supply bottle, so if there is one of those nearby...we can get more.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I have a full Acetelyne and two large O2's on the truck.  I also have about half an 80cuft Argon on the truck too if we need it.  I did think to throw in a few extra set of safety glasses, and an extra set of gloves, and a hood incase someone forgot theirs.  I also have 5-10lbs of rods of about every type in varying sizes.  Also various scrap plate from 1/4"-1", and even a couple short pieces of pipe.  I brought my tig set up if someone wants to give scratch start tig a shot, but I was out of mild steel tig rods.  if anyone has a few please bring some of you can.  I have one stop in the morning to make, and I will be on the way, so I may be 11:00 before I get there, but i will be there so don't lock the door on me.  Look forward to seeing you guys tomorrow.  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I should have more than enough 1/16" mild steel tig rods already at the shop, so we're good there.
Reply:Well guys, I've been MIA for a while with work, and my injection pump on my Cummins went out last weekend.  So, all the parts are here and I have to get it done today.  I am extremely pissed about this, but I guess I can come around for the next one.   Have fun yall-Greg
