Reply:Anything you can build I can open... its just a question of effort.Tool box would have been me 1st suggestion. Build a coil hanger in a cage. Exp. metal mesh to cover all sides. Small short bed truck side box maybe. I guess it all depends on how determined they are to get the stuff where you are. I don't worry about stuff at the house but when I have had to work in some Philly areas I pay a guy to sit in the truck and watch it. Hate like hell to do it but I had someone pry open the doors on the old utility truck while I was inside for 10 min a one spot. Heavy box, locked, top and bottom lock points,  good sized crowbar opened it in maybe 1-2 minutes would be my guess. Not that they managed to get much but the truck was messed up pretty good. New truck is even heavier gauge steel with a better locking system but I don't hold up much hope it will stop them if you give them 2-5 min uninterupted.
Reply:I lock mine in the pack rat drawer under the utility body.    Before that I put them in a Knaack-type jobsite lock box mounted in the bed.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Pic barely shows the leads up toward front of drawer.   Alot of space in there for leads and cords.   The hatch door closes down over the drawer and has 2 locks, then the tailgate closes over that and has a lock too.  It's not fool-proof, but I think it's a descent deterrent, especially since the drawer isn't seen at all when the tailgate is closed.   The jobsite lock-box is the safest place to store anything.   Short of using a torch or a cut-off wheel, the theif isn't going to get into a good jobsite lock box.Last edited by DesertRider33; 03-10-2008 at 01:57 AM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Tweeco quick connects. I take them off and lock them up.  Can't afford to have them disappear.I have some 25' lengths and one 50'.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:DesertRider33 good set up... cant give ye more rep point unless spread it around? to where I wonder... Nice, I remeber next time I built a truckUnit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:David, Yep, Tweco's, they're on all my leads for home and truck.   I link 25' and 50' sections together too, they're easy for me to handle that way.   I've been thinking of putting the stinger on a short, maybe 15', section of 0/0 or maybe 2 ga cable so it's lighter and more flexible than the 2/0 I use now.Westlawn, thanks for the props .MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:The dog works really well. I have a couple of hundred feet of 4/0 in the bed of my truck. When I finally get around to getting my racks built I am running a chain around the spools and locking them down. Figure if they have to be worked through on two different sides they will be too much trouble. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:i bought some locks from lowes there made by master and there like a big tie wrap you pull them tight around ur leads and it locks there pretty thick cable. i like them and the company i work for uses them i think there called viper locks or somethingComplete Fabrication Shop specializing in pipe fabrication. Also offering heavy steel fabrication and sheet metal work.
Reply:With #1 copper scrap going for $3.00 a pound you better lock them up good. It is really disgusting to see welding cable stripped and cut into small pieces.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
