hi all, i think i should've cut these two pieces into a V and used a bigger root gap. what do you think?
Reply:yes put a V grove then weldChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:Perfect example that joint preparation is everything.Try bevelling each of the two edges to 30 degrees so joint has 60 degree included angle. Leave a very small land on each piece - less than 1/16" or so, and also set pieces to have a similiar 1/16" gap. This weld may require two or more passes to complete properly, but on the "Root" pass, concentrate on melting and joining the two pieces of parent metal, AND trying to push weld through the gap. Follow up with Fill & Cap passes as required by your machine and wire size.On your next attempt, I would like to see pictures of the Root pass, and also the backside.Good Luck.Later,Jason |
