This may be a dumb question, but do they make a blade, like for a tabel saw to cut metal? I was wondering, because i don't do to good cutting with a torch and i don't have a plasma cutter. Thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question.
Reply:I have seen table saws and circular saws with certain blades used for aluminum but not steel. Do you have to cut alot? Is it all sheet or is it angle/bar/round stock? How thick?Yup
Reply:it will be sheets. 1/8 to 1/4, i wont be cutting many peices. Thanks
Reply:Mark, if you can't cut with a torch, a plasma will make you look equally stupid. What you are looking for may be found by searching for cold saws. My advice is to learn how to cut with a torch if you have one. A straight edge is your friend.
Reply:I can cut okay with a torch, but sometimes i go to fast and the cut looks like junk.
Reply:The skills you learn cutting with a torch will make you a better weldor. With practice you can make some very smooooth cuts with a torch. Consistent travel speed and steadiness( straight edge ) will help. Try a "dry run" first to make sure you can move from start to finish in a comfortable manner, before you light up. Plan your cuts, and watch the oxy blow the material away so you don't move too fast. Every cut has an optimal speed where you are not too fast or too slow... just right.
Reply:I have used these in my skill saw for a few projects, they work well. http://www.lenoxtools.com/enUS/Produ...AW_BLADES.htmlMe!
Reply:Yup. you can buy a blade for your skill saw to cut sheet goods.  Something like 18 to 26 gauge.  I used them to side my barn and they worked ok, you can always clamp a straight edge to help with your cut. Your local lumber yard or Lowes/HD probably has them. I can look at the blade if you want and fwd the name, but the previous post probably has that covered. A good nibbler or shear will do the job, but I could not justfy the cost. Good luckGeezer
Reply:will those cut 1/8 to 1/4? That is about all i use.
Reply:Mark,Bullet Industries makes a 7 1/4" blade which can be used in a standard skilsaw.  They work pretty well and hold up OK when cutting 1/8-1/4" material.Morse Industries makes the Metal Devil blades which are designed for cutting sheet stock.  There are metal cutting saws (similar to a skilsaw) designed specifically for cutting sheet stock.  Milwaukee makes a good one. (Have one).Lenox also makes a blade which can be used in a standard skil saw.Metal tubing, strip, bar stock, etc. can be cut with an abrasive chop saw.  A better solution though is the cold cut saw.  Looks like a metal chop saw but uses less RPM and a carbide tipped metal cutting blade.  Better cuts than a chop saw.Recommend doing a search on "Metal Cutting Saws".  If you don't get responses here, check out the Millerwelds site.  I've done a couple of evaluations over there.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:The reason, that i am tryin to stay away from chop saws and simmilar products is because in school i would always bogg down the chop saws and it got anowing. (sp) Thanks. I will try lowes and see what they have or try the lws
Reply:i second learning how to use a cutting torch efficiently. The gas axe is one of the best tools to be able to use, it has TONS of uses.what i see done incorrectly with torches is excessive cutting pressure, not enough preheat,  and traveling too fast.get a proper sized tip, use the recommended pressure, get it HOT before you start up, listen for the spray of metaluse a burning bar to keep yourself straight or angle iron works well tooflame cutting is just another hand eye coordination think, practice makes perfectjust my 2 cents
Reply:Learning to use a cutting torch is not terribly hard to do. After you master it you will find it is the most versitile of the many ways to cut steel. Complicated cuts are easy on the thicker stuff. That said, I use a skilsaw with a metal blade for straight cuts on thin material like r-panel because it is faster and doesn't damage the finish. A variable speed jigsaw has it's place on sheet up to 14 ga. though I usually use a torch and take the warp out because it is faster than the saw. A plasma cutter shines on thin stuff because of less warp but you have to learn to control it just like you do a torch. Where it really shines is cutting material that you can't with a torch such as aluminum and stainless.
Reply:Is burning bar the piece u guide the flame for the cut of Oxy flame? just curious... different country different term for stuff...yes a oxy/acet rig would prove useful...Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:yea a burning bar (as i call it) is just a straight edge with magnets to hold itself to the steeli actually prefer cutting free hand if i can get access.  In akward positions i use the burning bar to keep a good linehttp://www.flangewizard.com/they have alot of cool stuff, im actually in the process of creating a burning bar that will allow not only angled cuts, it will also allow beveled cuts (i do alot of hand beveling of h beams in the field)
