I was wondering how low a tank can get before you have to refill it? I turn my o2 tank on and the 1st goes up under 100 psi and i was wondering if i should get it filled? Thanks
Reply:if u pay rental/purchase on several tanks u can empty one  then switch to a full one. If u do so on  one tank, u trade off using the last bit of gas which u lose when u return it to get a full tank to avoid  runningout in the middle of what u r doing.
Reply:This is one place where getting to know your LWS guy can pay off.I often work on projects over the weekend and hate to turn in a bottle that's 1/3 - 1/4 full just to be sure to have enough gas. I ASK my LWS guy if he would mind spotting me a extra tank over the weekend so I don't have to swap it out untill its empty. He has never refused me yet. However I make darn sure that I'm waiting in the parking lot on monday morning when he shows up with the empty one so his inventory counts will work out when he takes his tank count at 8am for his gas order. Let's be honest, not all places will treat a customer this way. I know if I ever abuse the privlege, I won't ever be able to do it again. I treat the counter guy with respect, don't cuss at him if he dosen't have what I need that instant, and are patient while he waits on other customers, and he returns the favor by helping me out.

Reply:Mark, the rust on that plate will make it difficult to cut with a torch. Try grinding it off till it's shiny and see how you do.
Reply:yea, i figured i would cut it then gring it clean today. i will clean it then cut it and see how it works.
Reply:mark123 what do you have the oxy and acet. regs set at? Just at a quick glance it looks like you may need more O2. This could be because your tanks are low or because the reg is set to low. My generic set up for cutting is 5 psi acet. 40psi O2. It's not perfect for everything but I can get decent cuts in 1/8" -5/8" with these by controling how fast I move the torch. If I need super clean cuts, I'll fiddle with the settings on scrap untill I get the best finish and then cut the good pieces.

Reply:denrep Shows how much cutting with the torch I do. The plasma is so much easier for rough cutting in the shop. I hadn't even thought about a cloged tip. Makes a lot of sense.

Reply:On psi settings, I use15 psi on the gas and 50-60 on the air  Heats it up and blows it out.  might use a little more of it but I get a good clean cut on just about anything up to 3/4 in steel, and don't have to do a lot of grinding to clean it up  Just My opinion  Jthe gorilla that made it hold Ranger 8  15 yrs old SP150 mig 25 yrs old several Victor sets Snap On 130 mig  25 yrs old Lincoln 225 buzz box SA200  F163  78 mdl they all work just added a Idealarc 250/250
Reply:i am also a hobby welder, but i don't like it if i cabn't make a cut on some steel. the cut has to be some what clean and this set-up right now is not workin.
