Welding broken bail fork

Hi,This morning a customer came with a broken bail fork. The fork have shear and break. He need it to be welded but i'm not sure about the process for this type off material and stress. I was thinking to V it a max, pre-heat and weld with 7018. If someone have experience in welding that type of stuff like fork lift fork or bail fork your input are welcome :PThank a lotFrank

Reply:Don't forget heavy peening between passes. Beat the welds up with an air chisel.Minimize "pull" by using a double "V", and alternate passes from side to side. Good Luck

Reply:Is it a tube spear or a solid spear?  If it's a tube spear then it needs to be cut out and replaced.  I assume that it is a solid shaft, and probably broken where it was welded around to attach it to the frame?  I've attempted several over the years, but never had much luck welding them back together as a permanent fix.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Without a sleeve I dont think it will hold. I`m with Hammack on this. I`ve welded a few and tried just about everything and none last permanently.
Reply:a sleeve can work, but usually where they break it's not really possible to add a sleeve without re-engineering the thing.  Then you wind up with a price of replacement vs price of repair situation.  A picture would really help as far as recommending a solution.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
