I just got home from the welding shop and noticed my bill was higher than expected. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was charged almost $50 to fill the two smallest hobby sized oxy/acetylene tanks. The break down was $24 to fill an MC-10 acetylene and $22 to fill the 19 oxy. This seems really high to me, but the last time I filled them was years ago so I don't know if the prices have gone up that much? I'm starting to use my torch a lot more recently, but now I think I can hardly afford $50 for 20 minutes of cutting!
Reply:if your using it more, get bigger cylinders. Also the bigger the cylinder, the less the cost will be per cubic foot.
Reply:Well I don't know the number codes for my home owners bottles but I just bought some down her in SET(southeast Texas) & paid 13.50 for oxy & 17.25(20.98 w/tax+fees) for the acetylene.. Boy it don't last very long either & am looking into gettin full size bottle BUT w/cost of everything skyrocketing I'm thinking about just geting out of it all together,, How the heck you price something out anymore with fuel prices & material cost?RoHo East of HouTex
Reply:Every time I fill a bottle it goes up about 2 bucks. Right now I am shelling out 18 for a 240cu/ft oxy bottle. That's 2 bucks more than a 140, that's why I gave the 25 apiece to upgrade to the bigger cylinders. I use about a 350 cu/ft acetylene bottle and I think it was 55 the last time but I know it will be more this time. I can't recall the size of my small gas bottle but I think 120 cu/ft. I can't offer a guess on what it runs as I use it as little as possible and it has been a few months since I emptied it.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship.
