Any ideas on where i can get some decent priced 20-22 inch pipe i can build into a smoker?  New or used, used would be better pricewise, something around 1/4-5/16 wall.   Pretty basic design about 40" length for the cooking chamber and about a 24" fire box below/off to the side of it.  I've been to a couple local salvage yards but they have pretty small(16" and down) or really huge(36" and up), nothing in between.  I'm in Mesa, Arizona but will drive where ever within reason.  Something similar to this design.  Thanks!http://www.horizonbbqsmokers.com/prodpages/marshal.html
Reply:55 gallon drums work pretty well
Reply:Smokers are getting to be a popular enough project around here that some of the metal yards around here keep short lengths of such pipe on hand or can get one in a few days. Keep looking.
Reply:Propane tank...Me!
Reply:Try Davis Salvage on Washington and 34th Street in Phoenix.  They've got everything, new, used, and salvage, may take you a while wandering around their pretty large lots, but you might find something there.Good Luck!I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:Think about whats been in the pipe/tank before you go cooking food in it....I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
Reply:I don't know if you have oil wells in AZ. I've never seen anything west of Phoenix as it was always dark when we got through there. I've used old fire tubes. Usually 18 or 20 inch. Anyone who rebuilds them will probably sell you an old one pretty cheap. Sandblast it inside and out once it is built. I paint the outside and leave the inside bare. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:We have oil wells in Arizona, we just keep them in Texas and California.....Nothin' out here but copper and hot sand.....I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:Why not get some one to roll some 10 ga to the diameter you want?  The tank fab shop in the little village I am in will supply and roll 10 ga sheet.  Just weld the seam part way and use the other part of the seam for the door opening.  Just my .02 cents, but it worked for me.

Reply:Thanks for the replies guys!  I've been busy so i havent been on much.  I got some of my connections locally looking for a piece.  I checked Davis salvage first, they had pretty small around 16" and huge around 36", not much in between.  A couple propane tanks or old compressor tanks will work if i cannot find pipe.  I'm not a big fan of the 50 gallon drums, the ones i have seen are fairly thin and i would prefer it smooth.  Just waiting to hear back from a couple people that work in the oil industry that said they might have some around.  Otherwise i will most likely go with old propane tanks, although i dont like welding on stuff thats had gas in it!    Thanks again!
