Am I crazy for thinking about buying a Miller Blue Star 185 (about $2,300) instead of a reconditioned Champion 10,000 (about $2,500) or a Bobcat 225 (about $2,800)??? Need a welder for the ranch to work on heavy pipe fences, cattle feeders, etc. There is a lot of experience on this site. Please help me with this. Also, I will not be using the machine alot. Just every once in awhile (weekend rancher).
Reply:I wouldn't think you would be crazy. The question is will you need the added auxillary power the others offer? I own and operate a welding business and the majority of my work is in the farm and timber industry. With that said I seldom use over 185 amps on my portable machines so I don't see where you would be short handed power-wise for what you will be doing with the blue star. I am actually considering a blue star myself to keep as a back up unit or when we need an extra machine to throw on one of the service rigs. The main difference that I can see is gonna be in the auxillary power that you will have available.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man...... |
