Can someone tell me what er5356 means. The size is 035 and is in 1.0mm rolls. Is this a standard size weld wire? And what applications would it most be used for. Any help would be appreciated as I do not know. Thanks.
Reply:ER5356 is an aluminum welding wire.It is used for welding some types of aluminum together. The size of 0.035 is the wire diameter in inches. The "is in 1.0mm rolls" doesn't match up with the other given information. You can find out or look up all this information on the wire manufacturer's website, or on some of the 'big' welding manufacturer websites.www.lincolnelectric.com for Lincoln welders and lots of welding infowww.millerwelds.com for Miller welders and lots of welding infowww.esabna.com for ESAB in North America, and lots of welding info The best laid schemes ... Reply:Thanks. That will give me a start. It is in like 30lb spools. Would that be a wire feed welder?
Reply:Yup, a 30 lb spool of 0.035 ER5356 aluminum wire would commonly be used in a wire feed welder, aka GMAW, aka MIG welder. It could also be used for an automated GTAW hot-wire set-up. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:30 pound spool of Aluminum!!! That's gotta be huge! Standard 12" spools of Al are only about 12-13 pounds.
Reply:Lincoln lists some nominal 12" OD spools of aluminum MIG wire in 16 and 20 lb variations. Standard 2" 'bore' on the spools, the 16 lb'ers have a spool core diameter of 6-3/4 inch and the 20's are 5-29/32 inch. All other spool dimensions are the same. But yeah, a 30 lb spool of aluminum would be pretty big!Lincoln's 'big' aluminum spools/reels are 24" OD and have 165 lbs of wire on them! 5356 and 4043 only on those big boys.
