Found this on Craigslist.http://albany.craigslist.org/tls/841570408.html
Reply:looks dangerous...... JMHO.  Plus I am assuming that isnt Amsterdam, Holland.
Reply:Looks like a hand wound mult-tap AC Buzz-box stuffed in a paint can. I'm sure it's as safe as any comparable welder of similar technology.
Reply:Heck, I'd give 'er a shot.  Just hold my beer a sec while I fire it up  Couldn't be any more dangerous than liftin' the bulls tail to check him for ticks."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Mmmm, bucket welder, could be on your "bucket list" "One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." (Charles Kettering)Mitch 180 (NZ)Lincoln SAM-400-220 + ?-400 Fordson Major + 2 x Tractapac Humber 80 + Procut 40 PlasmaMiller Spectrum 375
Reply:Slightly off topic but here goes:farmersamm, what does a tick look like when you find one? I'm asking because I cleared a birds nest out from on top of the battery on the tractor and next day found a little dark things the size of a match head on me. It didn't let go easily and was full of blood. My blood I suspect! Too small for the taxman, any ideas what it might have been, please?Last edited by Tractapac; 09-15-2008 at 07:05 PM.Reason: typo"One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:TractapacHere anyhow.  The ticks are mostly brown, about 1/8 dia. when "empty".  Full, the body can swell up as big as dime, and looks like a leather blob.  Lotta wives tails about gettin' em off.  I just pull em' off.  Itches at that spot for months.  I've been told it's because the head reamains in the skin.  Sounds more like what you had. Then there's what we call Chiggers.  A small round mite the size of a large pinhead.  They like to burrow into ya too.  Usually get them off with your fingernail."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Ticks, like everything else, have different species. The ones which live on birds don't normally go to deer or cattle (or people?). Out west, we have deer ticks which do go to people, and interestingly, also to lizards (which they attack at the neck folds or at the ears). They also can carry Lyme disease, but when the ticks here feed on lizard blood, something in the blood kills the organism which causes the Lyme disease. Too bad New Zealand has almost no reptiles, especially lizards. Your 'bloody problem' does sound as if it had been a tick. There are also some small insects which suck blood, but I don't think they gorge that way. BTW, ticks are arachnids and have 8 legs. I'm sure you can find lots of gory info. about them on the internet. The best way to avoid getting ticks on you is to not carry a bucket welder through tick-infested high weeds. [That so this all stays on topic!]

Reply:Tracta,Sounds like a tick.Ticks can vary in size throughout their various stages of their lifecycle, from a nymph stage the size of the head of a pin to a swollen gorged (on blood) adult the size of a small grape (Ewww!).Ticks come in various colors, from brown to black to reddish-brown.They can also carry or transmit all sorts of diseases to animals and people, including Lyme disease and tick-bite fever and Rocky Mountain spotted fever and others.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TickRemoval by applying heat is NOT a good idea, as the tick often reacts to the heat by regurgitating (puking) into you and thus increasing the chances of disease transmittal.  Other NOT good ways of removing a tick are the "smother it with Vaseline".The best way I've found to remove a tick is with a little 'notched' thin metal spoon gadget.  You slip the notch down by where the tick is attached and then gently apply upward pressure until the tick lets go or rips apart.I do NOT like ticks!!!!!!  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
