useful life of 110 volt mig welders

How many years or how much use before a mig welder needs to be replaced?  I am looking at a Lincoln pro mig 135.  The guy said it is about 5 years old and he used it for a landrover restoration and some projects around his house.  He is asking $300 and includes the gas cylinder (the welding store that refills the tank is close by).  He said the welder works as good as the day he bought it.  Is this a good deal and what if any repairs will need to be made in the future?  Thanks in advance for any and all replies.  Jim
Reply:A good quality brand name wire feeder unit with 5 years of home owner use on it has a lot of wire left to feed. I would be a bit worried about a 5 year old unit that was used in a body shop though. $300 with bottle sounds pretty darn good. Can't think of any repairs you should expect. Gas solinodes do fail on occasion, Wire feed motor will wear with time, but should still be fine. Main PS boards, you just never know, but don't hear of them blowing often in these units.Maybe new feed roller and cable liner, but I have been using mine for 5 years at a bit more than a home use level and they are still good.Lincoln PT185 TIGLincoln 175 MIGLincoln 240 amp AC StickLind Needle Arc plasma welderPlasma cutter, soon???

Reply:My lincoln 100 was 9 years ols when I sold it, I wish I still had it. It works at a friend of mines' garage still today.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
