I purchased a Miller Bobcat 250.  I bought it to power my house during the hurricane, and now that I have it would like to give welding a try.  What size cables should I buy?  I am getting different answers.  I have been told #2 or 1/0.  I am planning to be 100 feet from the welder.
Reply:#2 is too small.  1/0 is big unless you plan to run it full tilt all the time.   100' from the welder is 200' of cable.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Other than cost, what is the downside to using a larger cable? i.e. 1/0?  Thanks, Rob

Reply:You can get by with #1. 90-95% of my stick work is 150a and under. Others mileage may vary and probably will. I used to run nothing but 1/0 on my Bobus, but got very tired of lugging them around. I switched to 100' of 1/0 ground and 100' of #1 stinger. It worked very nicely and still works for me today. I have a backup section(s) of 2/0 and 1/0 for those times I am over 150a. Running wire, I frequently exceed 225-250a.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
