Can a medical Oxygen E Tank be refilled with an Argon mix to weld Stainless Steel?
Reply:Yes, if you have the valve changed to a CGA-580, BUT expect strange charges from your supplier, who may not know the volume of that tank offhand (and usually rounds up).
Reply:Is there any way to change the valve on  "compressed air tanks". This one is heavy like an oxygen or gas bottle. The gauge that is part of the tank valve says full at 2000PSI. The tank is stamped with information like all other bottles. It has some sort of aviation purpose. The valve says Scott Aviation, Lancaster NY A cga 580 valve will not fit, because the tank's inlet is about an inch diameter. (larger than cga 580). Also, it is roung on the bottom like a scuba tank.Last edited by grey; 11-09-2008 at 04:52 PM.
