being the noob that i am, and knowing enough to be dangerous (HA!!) i was wondering if perhaps this site has a dictionary stickied somewhere, or perhaps someone could make one?some of the terminology here i am unfamiliar with, and i'm not going to waste a thread asking one simple question or thread jack some elses post for an explaination..like when i first started looking around, i had no idea hat a weave or woven (or whatever you call em!!) weld was until i saw a pic.. this was ina stringers Vs weave thread.. i've seen the weave and how it's done, but don't know what the stingers are.. i'd assume a "normal" weld? lol just, stuff like that.. sorry for being such an idiot!!   but i guess from the looks of the amount of guests and newbie welders, i might not be the only one that benefits from it!??http://kawispeed.com/ -moderator and tech deluxewww.myspace.com/trickortrack -cuz i have no life
Reply:Hello, my name is John.......and I'm an idiot too.
Reply:Hey, not knowing anything about a subject doesn't make you an idiot. None of us knew what we were doing when we first started. My advice is get a copy of "The Procedure Handbook Of Arc Welding" also known as "The Bible" from Lincoln Electric. It will tell you anything yu want to know and in great detail.
Reply:Oldtimer is right its a good book..   I purchased it after seeing him, Jollyroger and numerous other people reccomending the book..   Theres a lot of info in there and its not too crazy on price.  $24 USD Direct off Lincolns web site...
Reply:Use the SEARCH function; you can find threads on almost everything you want to learn about it here, somewhere!! If you want to read a welding process basic book, www.Millerwelds.com . and then go to instruction manuals. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Basically a stringer is a weld or bead done with little or no side to side movement. Only forward travel at the appropriate speed.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:Thanks for the info...they have a dictionary there as well.http://www.millerwelds.com/resources/dictionary.html

BUT, i have ALOT to learn as well, i know.. i read thru all this crap on here and am just stunned at what i DON'T know, and it's funny, cuz i pride myself on being pretty friggin intelligent.. i love it tho.. i've been thowing the link to this place and talkin it up.. i really hope that when i get some extra money togther i can buy a tig from someone here and get all the info i need!! should be able to jsut from past posts!!  like my turbo build for my bike.. that'll be alot of welding, for sure.. lol (mainly aluminum and stainless) thanks again tho! much appreciated.. http://kawispeed.com/ -moderator and tech deluxewww.myspace.com/trickortrack -cuz i have no life

Reply:tresi.. the worm weld i referred to might just be a personal term i picked up from this other dude.. lolhe called it that because, well, it looked lie a worm!! lol.. there was almost no penetration and the weld was tall and skinny.. like if you pulled a mig bead continuously and never let it burn in, or the power was too low, or ya moved too quick..certainly wasn't a good weld by any means.. i'd guess stringers are far superior to a worm weld any day by that token.. lolhttp://kawispeed.com/ -moderator and tech deluxewww.myspace.com/trickortrack -cuz i have no life
Reply:Ropey, I believe, is the correct term you are referring to.  Unless someone else knows a better terminology.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:That isn't no kinda of weld as a weld has fussion. I call it dropping a duce on it.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:lol.. my thoughts exactly.. i know i would have never trusted what i saw referred to as a "worm weld". it was trash.http://kawispeed.com/ -moderator and tech deluxewww.myspace.com/trickortrack -cuz i have no life
