Ok fellas I am new I still need my head so go easy. I did welding with a wirefeed welder in college for autobody. We did not use gas on body panels. I need a wirefeed welder that I can weld exhaust tubing, roll bars, and body panels. I would prefer not gas cause I have never used it, but would tinker with it eventually. Does anyone know where in Oklahoma I can get one or have an old used one they want to sell. I just want to learn at first then move up from there. Thanks
Reply:WOW Awesome forum.
Reply:I seen hot welder, and I thought you were describing me..*insert welding gibberish here* Mandy
Reply:I wouldn't have thought it would be possible to do body panels with flux core. I think you may need gas and solid wire."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I use a gas mig for auto body panels all the time.I use a Century 135GL Mig with 25/75 mix. But sometime I still use brazing.as with the heat its easier to form the panels to the bodyCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:Roll Bars should be constructed of Chrome Moly Tubing and TIG welded. Forget the MIG. NHRA had a crew that followed the races called "Team Torch". Guy has a REALLY nice rig. Watched him weld a roll cage on a Top Fuel one time. All welds in the NHRA cars are required to be X-rayed. This guy has never busted. Also, since he travels with the NHRA Officials, they don't x-ray his stuff anymore.

Reply:Oh forgot your question as to where to get welder!! Did you know what kind of welder you wanted? What type of materials do you plan to weld?Several places come to mind where you can look!! On craiglist in your area type in keyword welder. In local newspaper under tools (althought you'll sometime find them in other places in the classified section). On Ebay type in welder. On the DMRS (gov't sales) site type in welder ( but realize if you buyu here you should inspect the welder before buying). Pawn shops sometimes have welders.Good Luck in your search,TomCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back. |
