Reply:In todays uncertain world of employment, if it were me, Id stay put. Atleast until things settle a bit. I dont know how much time you have in where youre at, but as with most companies, last one in is the first one out. If you really want to get better at welding, a class or two may be the ticket. Even if you still say screw it, Im going to the local welders hall, a few classes is always good.

Reply:The 80's had the same unemployment rate we have now.  Nothing has changed except people used to work harder so and had less expensive toys so that  they didn't have to worry as much.  I grew up learning that you should do more than "do your job" because that is what drove America to greatness.  What happened to us?BTW what's wrong with really putting out?  What's wrong with hard work?  Has our mentality become so entitlement oriented that we have lost our ability to use old fashioned common sense and reason?  If we entitle a 10 year man "just doing his job" to his job, then the world will certainly put an axe to the neck of American commerce because they are willing to settle for nothing less than 110 percent output out of their workers and axe their mediocre 100 percenters.  Oh... wait... that's what has already happened. Scratch that.  Too late. The world has taken more pages from our history book and learned more from them than we ever forgot.Last edited by lugweld; 01-04-2009 at 02:11 PM.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Now it seems that a man of 10+ years doing his job really needs to step it up above and beyond just to not get noticed by the axe.

Reply:I would agree.  But the greatest proponent of making all things fair and equal have been the unions hasn't it?Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:I have worked union all of my life, Dad before me as well, don't know any other way, I am from proud Polish immigrants and the thing alot of entitled union people have forgot is to give anyone you work for a good days work for a good days pay.If you aint happy move on and quit bitchin. It comes down to something that i have seen lost in the last two decades. good old fashioned pride. No one seems to care how others view them and worst yet , what they see in the mirror as long as they get paid every week. I have always worked hard and have always come home dirty and I do see the stroke artists around me, It makes me bitter I admit, but at the end of the day I gotta be me and enjoy knowing if push comes to shove, I can outwork and outlast the majority of them.
