Ok so my location is Charlotte NC. That tells you where the job would be. I have been in the welding industry since 1998. I have done the production thing and the fabrication thing and the lead designer thing. I am now looking to get out of the shop enviroment and get into the more technical end of the welding industry. I have been looking at the certified welding inspector seminar and exam offered by AWS. What my question is are there any poeple on here that have done this type of work before or anything similar. What I am trying to do is get away from the labor end of the market and start saving my back and my eyes. Its either that or start looking for another career. I have been in welding too long just to throw my knowledge away on another job I know nothing about. Seriously guys all advice is needed. Good or bad. Thanks ......AWS CWI/CWEASNT NDT Level 2 PT/MTAWS Certified Welder(aerospace)

Reply:Have you considered the robotic end of things? More and more companies are turning toward robots to do the production welding - they have to be set up, maintained, and sometimes reprogrammed when they lose their rev counters from a power outage or surge. Just throwing some ideas at ya...Fire!, Fire! Oh wait, that's my torch...Lincoln PT-225 TIGLincoln 175 MIG

Reply:Become a welding engineer, with shop and real life knowledge you'll do great. We are tired of all the engineers having some crazy acsent that you can't even understand them on the phone.my .02Equipment:06 F-450Classic IIInvertec V205-T AC/DCLN-25 PROPro-Cut 80Milwaukee Power Tools
Reply:As far as education goes on robot programming, there isn't too much to it. All the ABB robots we have at work are programmed through the teach pendant. You obviously have to know the weld path, ect.ABB has a training program available, our electricians just finished some updates due to new controllers and pendants.Fire!, Fire!
