Just a couple of quick questions for all you out in the Welding Web world and all suggestions are welcomed.  Just started on Tig welding a bit ago and am having some issues with thin metals, but am having an easier time with some heavier metals as well as joining metals. Is this odd?  Someone told me that it was easier with the joining because I had something to focus on.  What are your suggestions for the thin metals?  Just starting out on this, so any and all suggestions would be much obliged!

Reply:thin metals require less heat and are easier to overheat.. watch carefully and back off the heat before it is too late..thick stuff is easy because its harder to fuff it up(does that make sense ?)
Reply:I'm welding 16 ga in class. I spent weeks trying to do flat, open root; with the 1/16" gap and 1/16" filler that the book told me to use. Since I don't want to 'reinvent the wheel', that's what I used.  After thinking about it (for weeks), I decided to try a 'little' wider gap and some 3/32" filler. Bingo, Monday night I passed my flat weld and my vertical weld, in two consecutive 6" attempts.  Thinking I had it nailed, I spent the next 6 hours trying to do my horizontal. NO joy.  And that's how my week ended. 9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250
