I'm hopeing someone knows or has an idea. I have a vaccuum operated exciter that lets carb. tach up when arc is struck and holds till adjustable flow after arc stops is met. There is a screw in the petcock for adjusting vac flow that seats into some felt like insert ( much like a needle and seat in carb ). Felt part no longer avail. Anyone have any exper w/ this or can think of anything to replace the felt.?
Reply:If you use the machine much change it over to an electronic idler. Couple hundred bucks but well worth it.
Reply:Rubber "O" ring perhaps? Many small engine carb rebuild kits have something like what you're looking for. If it's only vacuum that comes in contact with the seal, you might even be able to fab the washer with some good gasket material.Good Luck.

Reply:You might want to check with a bearing supply store. Felt was and sometimes still is in use as a seal on some industrial pillow block bearing housings. Used to be able to buy it in sheets like gasket material comes in and cut it to shape and size for ourselves when I was Millwrighting for a living.
Reply:Thanks for responses. Duanne55 knew what i meant, and i loved Niteskys economical idea, however iIgot a inline needle valve to work, (two machined copper surfaces), harder to adjust, but works well, i have about a 25 second delay before eng tachs down. |
