Can somebody tell me the difference in E71T-GS Flux cored wire and NR- 211 MP Flux Cored wire? I've got a 140 c Lincoln wire welder and the NR-211 MP wire (.035) works fine, but I don't know anything about the E71T-GS Flux Cored wire. Thanks!
Reply:Is the NR-211 MP a self sheilding wire? What brand its the E71T-GS?
Reply:Yes. I beleive the NR-211 MP is a self-sheilding wire. I don't know what brand the E71T-GS is.
Reply:Sort of sounds like the Weldmark stuff I use.  I've been told it's like a generic Lincoln flux core wire.  I'm probably wrong.  Would have to go out and look at the spool.  They have all sorts of crazy designations on wire.  But then, I'm crazy too. Reply:NR 211 meets the AWS specifications for 71T-11  wire.71T-GS is basically whatever the manufacturer wants it to be.  Often sold at the box stores, it is many times easier to weld with, but doesn't necessarily meet any codes.

Reply:The GS series is also listed in the welding bible as being a single pass only wire. Not to say you can't make multi pass welds but be warned. Does a great job on fillet welds and works really really well in the flat and overhead positions but TO ME the vertical up hill leaves something to be desired...and no its not the operator because I can get nice looking welds I just don't care for how the slag form sometimes. When going up hill I and always hyper aware of not welding over any slag with the GS wire.'Mike
Reply:I use T-GS in all positions and the uphill comes out pretty good.  If it doesn't come out good, it was either I messed it up or the machine had a problem feeding at the time.  I've not yet had a situation where I could rightfully blame anything on the wire.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Heare's some older wording on the G/GS. "10 --- This number, in the range 1-14, or the letter G with or without an S, refers to usability. G indicates that the shielding medium, polarity, and impact properties are not specified. S indicates an electrode suitable only for single-pass welding."http://www.mwsco.com/kb/kb_frameset.asp?ArticleID=74
Reply:Good one Sandy, I didn't know that, I thought GS stood for General Service (junk).David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Making multi-pass welds with a single-pass FCAW wire runs a real risk of cracking.  If a single pass wire has specified mechanical properties, there's also a good chance you won't get those properties from a multipass weld.Sometimes wires are made and classified as G if they don't fit any of the existing catagories in the AWS standard, or if testing on the wire to determine weld mechanical properties is incomplete. They remain classified G until AWS creates a new category, full testing is complete and the wire properties are fully understood, and/or the wire is tweaked by the manufacturer to fit into an existing catagory(T-1, T-6, T-8, T-11, etc.)  Originally Posted by ironman715The GS series is also listed in the welding bible as being a single pass only wire.
