grinder quit workin

at first glance to me it seems kike the gears aren't touching. i can see the fan moving like normal when i turn it on, and everything sounds good, but the shaft isn't truning.  i looke at some of the things online, and they were take out the carbon pieces and sanding em down till the edges are flat agian, do i need to do keep up with that when they wear down?  thanks
Reply:If the motor still turns, and the shaft doesn't, it probably needs new gears in the head.  If it's a name brand grinder you can probably find a supplier that sells replacement gears as long as you give them the model no.  Not a hard job to replace gears, at least on my Dewalt.Mine's ready for gears again.  Been about 3 yrs., and It's starting to run rough and sounds like it's skipping.  My gear sets run around 20-25 dollars.  Cheaper than a new $80 grinder."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:we've had it about 3 years not used too much though, mostly tiles jobs, and some steel lately.  it's made by cummins industrial tool, if anyones ever heard of it.  couldn't find it online

Reply:not sure where he bought it, not a traveling show though i'm sure (sounds like the circus)one of these days when i get a couple of minutes to spare i'll bring it to a shop, and see what can be done, if nothing i'll be hittin up the pawn shops

Reply:i went in one a couple of weeks ago to look for guns, and they had some cool stuff.  i never really realiozed they sold tools and stuff.  it's new to me no matter hoe owls it is.

Reply:I buy stuff from Cummins when they come into town, mostly extension cords.  They set up sale sites at various places, and work offa a semi trailer.  If it's one of their small 4 1/2 grinders bite the bullet and buy another one.  Maybe 20 some dollars.Watch out for the reconditioned BB guns,  I see a lot of people returning them.  I think they chase the truck down the highway until it stops somewhere"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
