mig weldability LN-25 ??

I don't do much mig.     I'd like to get some opinions or some explanations what advantages or disadvantages to mig with ln-25 versus a regular in house feeder.     I believe the LN is constant voltage senseing and wire won't be hot till it makes contact.     Does this create to cold of a start?     Any other issues or differences compared to other indoor feeders that anyone can think of?
Reply:I have 2 LN-25s.  Powered by a CV source, it welds just like any other mig welder.  Mine are hot all the time, but some have contactors or can be wired to the power source so the gun is only hot when you pull the trigger.  Still just like any other mig welder.  I also have an LN9-GMA.  It  has the same drive system as the LN-25.  So does the LN-7.Cold start is the same as any other mig welder.  The LN-25 should last almost for ever.  Mine are over 20  years old and working like the day I bought them.As far as the voltage sensing, its only for constant current.  For Constant Voltage, there is a wire you hook to the ground of your welder or work that powers the drive motor in the feeder.  It does not sense voltage.David  Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Ok guys, I've used it straight polarity for innershield, for mig its reverse.       So i can run the ln 25 with my hot lead going into feeder also for mig?      If I bought a feeder meant for the shop w/ all the wires for the pin connection, how would be different or better than using a ln-25?

Reply:OH forgot about this, the LN-25 (I assume you have), is a great choice for the shop too, the reason for this, because the wire itself, has less change in getting grinding dust and moisture on the wire. CLEANis key here, of course, wire cans for the spools and coils on other wire feeders, will serve the same purpose as what you got. BUT only as an option. the new LN-25 pro has the maxtrac drive rolls and a VERY nice convenient feature is lincoln included a flow meter on the back side of the case of this one.have fun with it.mike.
