A customer called and told me that the local mill used to make a flat bar that measured 1" x 1/4" with a side bevel that met in the middle.  Almost in a diamond shape.  Anyone ever heard of this stuff before?Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Kind of like a grouser bar?
Reply:Don't think it would be a grouser bar as the smallest grousers are 1 1/8 x 1/2 with bevels. This would be Duratuff anyways. But I agree it does sound like thats what it should be. Did they say what they wanted it for?
Reply:I have seen and used it. I think it was cold rolled steel. I was a welder under contract to help out a concrete company repair some molds for some of the pre-cast products. We had a great deal of this. It was used in the corners of the mold to give the finished product a relieved edge, (like beveling an edge of wood or steel) This edge treatment kept the finished concrete from having a square, easy to break edge. I have never seen it anywhere else, but if you are looking for it, you might find someone who does pre-cast work, check out his suppliers or catalogs.Just my  opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
Reply:I found out it is called bar grate.  Mostly used as fireplace grates.  Now I just have to find a local supply of them. They used to roll them at the mill the same way you do flat bar.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
