I have an older marquette welder used for auto body sheet metal. It doesn't have a designated polarity reverse wire set-up for flux core welding but I can get to the ac power feed and might be able to flip the polarity. Should I not do that since the machine isn't really set up for polarity reversal or can it be done on an older machine? ThanksDoug M NY U.S.A.

Reply:Don't flip anything on the AC input power side!Find the DC+ weld power output cable that juices the torch. Then find the DC- cable that connects to the work lead. Switch the position of those two cables with eachother so the DC+ goes to the work lead and the DC- goes to the torch.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Sounds good guys. Just realized I need to switch on the DC side.. not the AC coming in to the unit. Perhaps If I can isloate the DC leads an I can build a termianl block to make it easier to switch. Machine is set up for solid wire with gas now.•••dlm•••
Reply:If you re-route both leads outside the machine, put Tweco or Dinse connectors on them, then return them back into the machine, you'll be able to swap their connections easily and quickly from outside the machine without using any tools. On the AC input power side, Never, Ever, Ever connect a ground or nuetral to a hot. Your machine will quickly go *poof*.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
