Subject should read   How Many Rods in a Pound?   (my "A" key sticks and I can't edit the subject :-(  )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This is my first post here. I am new to this site and new to welding. I'm going to get some welding rods to add to my collection of 6013 and 7014 and gouging rods that I have collected at yard sales.I can buy rods at a local farm store that sell loose rods from a 50 pound can. I have searched the net trying to so a listing of the number of rods to a pound for 6011 eighth inch rods (1/8).I haven't found any site that lists this information. I don't weld by the pound but by the rod and I wonder about how many rods will be in a pound.Do you have a link I can check out that lists this information?Thanks,ClemP.S. I have assembled a 225 amp AC stick welder, a 135 amp Miller wire welder with gas and an O/A setup (large and small). I have the equipment, now I need the knowledge and experience.Last edited by Workstead; 05-04-2009 at 10:40 PM.Reason: Tried to edit the subject line and couldn't so I added a first line to the message.
Reply:Clem, welcome to the site. I have never seen rods sold by count, even when breaking a 50# tin down. They still usually weigh them out. If you need the count, my advice would be to buy a pound and start counting.Good luck.
Reply:14 1/8" rods per pound.....usually. depends on if u have a big ole coat of flux on them then it will go down a little.
Reply:I have some old 6010 in a semi-dry environment, in a red plastic rod holder.16 of them weigh 14.625 OZ  So that's about 0.914 OZ per rod.17 of them are too much for my one pound digital scale.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Reply:Thanks for the responses. They were right on.Today I bought some 3/32" and 1/8 " 6011 rods. ($1.49 per pound)The 3/32 were about 30 per pound and the 1/8 were about 16 per pound as Craig listed.I have bought nails by the pound and often the count is in small type somewhere on the box.I was curious to see if some manufactures of rods had listed a weight/count approxamation somewhere.Clem
