I am in need of a mig welder and I am prepared to spend up to $2000. I have no bias toward one brand or the other. I have some mig experience but I am unfamiliar with exactly what specifications I should be looking for. I would like something that I could use for custom furniture, sculpture and light fab work such as truck bumpers. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks muchpachanga
Reply:Something in the 250A class would be in that price range. New Millers/Lincolns will be well over that, but there are deals out there if you search for them.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build

Reply:I would look for a used Millermatic 251/252 or 210/212 if you want a shop welder. If you want something more portable, the new Millermatic 211 is alot smaller, runs on 110v and 220v and my friend just bought a brand new one for about $900. Used Millermatic 180's (220v only, same size as 211) go for $500/600 around here.First mig I bought was an HTP MIG200, brand new from the factory, back around 1992. It was about $2000 with shipping, 250 size tank and a few extras. Still have it, still works great, still use it on occasion too. www.htpweld.comLast edited by DesertRider33; 05-10-2009 at 06:24 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:You might want to take a look at the Thermal Arc lineup too . They are running a great promotion right now ( in Canada anyway ) , where I was able to by a new Fabricator 210 ( 250amps ) for $1850 Canadian , and it came with a really nice Auto helmet , and a complete spoolgun setup ( gun , tips , case etc ) . The Fabricator 210 comes from the factory with the spot timer , burn back control , stitch weld controls already installed too . Nice Tweco 250amp gun as well . The arc is really nice and it has tons of power ( 1/2 inch capable ) .I originally went to get a new Miller 212 AS but went home with this instead .Miller MM252 with Q300Hypertherm PM1000Everlast Powertig 200DXMiller Syncrowave 200
Reply:ESAB 250, rock solid machine, about $1800 on flea bay.
Reply:I just was looking at them this morning at a local place, he had the TA Fabricator 251which is a 300 amp welder, they have it on Ebay for $1995 with the helmet and everything but they said he would sell it to me for $100 off the Ebay price normally, and even less if I pick it up there too. They also had a 210 and 190 there to look at, all look the same other than the amps, but I think the 210 is actually a 250 amp machine, and the 251 is a 300 amp machine, the model number doesnt go with the output. I think I am going to get the 210 from them that is big enough for me, they all came with the nice auto dark welding helmet and mig package and everything too. I just got the TA 185 Tig from them last week and had been impressed with it, just have to figure it out some more. They were in Pittsburgh about 10 miles from me it is machinetoolonline.com but they dont have welders on the site you have to call. I found them from a used welder on craigs list and I am glad since they are close and they did let me try it out before I buy one which is really cool. I think im goin back tomorrow, just want to sleep on it because I really dont need it until next month but its a good deal now if I can get the extra few bucks. This is it on Ebay I found http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=230342389706 I know the 210 is a lot cheaper so I will probably get the 210 instead it will work for me. |
