someone I know on the vwvortex had a bit of a mishap with his race motor, what are your thoughts on repairing something like thisworth it or not? head has a decent bit of port work done and over sized valves alreadyhttp://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4396920He seems to think the head is toast, as would I until I saw your work on this site!
Reply:Havn't repaired one of those v6 VW heads yet, looks like a easy repair though. 10 years ago I was in a shop in GA that cnc'd a pressure test plate for one of those, the pt mfgrs hadn't made a plate yet. Can't see the rest of the chambers, is that the only one w/damage? Looks like int valve tatooed piston? Why? Fixable w/warrenty, almost have to have in shop to price, can fix just damage or rebuild.  If the head produced really good power fix it, if not (not ported worth a poop) junk and get new one done right.Peter
Reply:The valve made a nice hole in the piston. That was the only cylinder that had an issue #3 . The owner isn't sure what caused it yet no crazy over rev or anything. Probably would cost about as much to have it fixed as it would to outfit a new core for that valvetrain + port work. He was making about as much power as I have seen NA out of any 12v vr6. There is more info and pics if you are interested in that link in my first post.I will point him your way if he is curious about having it fixed, I haven't heard back yet
