Reply:Parts being tested with dry iron powder must me degreased & given ample time for any cracks to dry of solvents. It works by forming a magnetic field around the poles of the maganet. The field is very much like the ripples on water after tossing in a stone. A crack interrups this field & the powder will line itself up along the crack. If the parts in question are small & glass bead cleaning is ok. First clean the parts in a solvent like in a parts washer tank. If clean run the solvent over them anyway. Glass bead clean, lay parts out handling them with nitrile gloves, If there is even a tiny crack the solvent will wick back out of the crack & form a drak gray or black looking line. Up sid of this is it works on Al. as well as ferrous metal.IF IT WORKS, DON'T FIX IT2 Lincoln CV-300 / LN-7 GMALinde-VI 253,400 & 450 w/MIG35 feedersCNC Table with Oxweld O/A & Hypertherm 1250G3Lincoln Ranger GXT 250Hobart-MicroWire 300ESAB Heliarc 161ESAB-Mobilemaster 2 CC/CV Feeders& more |
