My father bought a '85 Corvette Drag car that was set up for small block chevy. We disagree with that small block thing mainly cause he's got nothing but big block chevy stuff. Anywho, we need to build headers among a list of other things. The headers have me concerned. Some people say "buy a kit"and others recommend buying pre bent sections of tubing. I dont have means of bending tubing. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?
Reply:I get my mandrel bend tubing here: http://www.burnsstainless.com/index.htmJust about anything you would need for header fabrication.Rex
Reply:Did some a while ago for a BB Chev with a mandrel bend kit. Use the extra bends to get your radius to flow, no steps and good fit up will help heaps. Check as you final weld as you will get a little movement. Weld the tubes to the header plate from the inside and outside. Check for flatness if using a 1 piece header plate, file a little or get someone to mill flat for easier sealing..
Reply:i thank u for the info. we or i should say dad purchased a hedman kit. i hope to post pics of this job in the near future.
Reply:Depending on how your headers will be oriented, you'll probably be buying some additional bends anyways. The header "kits" are usually ok for chassis cars, and that's about it.
Reply:it is indeed a chassis car. we think an alston chassis but we can't find a tag. |
