When you don't need to run to the LWS and have the luxury of waiting for UPS, what are some of your favorite place to shop for welding stuff on-line?  Can be for helmets, consumables, cables, regulators, back-up stuff.List the name, and a link too!
Reply:When my LWS isn't competitive.  I always give them a shot first. even give them a, Come very close, match or beat price on the item(s) at hand. Reply:I've bought from www.cyberweld.com, www.weldfabulous.com, got some gear from the Working Person's Store.  If you're not doing this for a living (and on someone else's schedule), you can get a lot of stuff online.  When I needed 5/64 6013, it was nice not to have to hope a local place would carry it.  (Indiana Oxygen did.)
Reply:Personally, I never buy any welding equipment or consumables online.I know some of you guys have to worry about the bottom line more than I do.I buy equipment, rods, and steel, from the same place.I also get my sheet sheared for free, and they cut all stock down to size to fit my pickup bed for free.  I get good deals on drops from other people's purchases (this place sells less than full stick).It's a no brainer for me.  I get good service, a person to talk to, and good freebies once in a while.  Plus, I see these folks in the grocery store once in a while.  And, because they see me at the same grocery store, they don't screw me on prices or service.  Having to face someone again down the line makes for good business relationships"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:USA Weld on ebay is HTP America, and based just outside of Chicago near the airport!I do buy from them on occasion, but most of the time I buy from the local LWS until here recently on my sticks and wire, they changed the brand they sell, they used to sell Weldmark, and it was OK, but I have used better, but I got along with it,  and they are now selling Blue Demon brand, I haven't tried the wire yet, but I am not impressed with the rods I have tried so far, they are hard to start and you need to hold the tip so close to the work piece to keep an arc going that it is near impossible to keep from sticking them, turn the amps up to near their highest rated amp use and they spit and spatter like crazy!#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!

Reply:Great thread guys.  Thanks JC, I am also pretty limited by geography.  Home Depot is about 30 minutes away, but they only carry the basics, if you could even call it that.  They don't even have 4X5 replacemet lenses and cover plates, only the small ones.  Not to mention drive rolls, nozzles, etc.  I walked into the "LWS" the other day and they gave me a dirty look, so I looked around, didn't really see any welding supplies, and walked out.  I think a lot of places only want to deal with contractors, not hobbyists like myself.  I was pretty bummed, as I worked at a LWS for about 6 years in high school and college, and always enjoyed talking to the weekend welder guys and didn't mind selling two tips and a 2# spool of wire.  Oh well, I'll check out some of these sites.Last edited by HDH; 06-15-2009 at 10:46 AM.Reason: spelling
