Have owned a Lincoln 225 for years and have never been good at it.  Waiting on my Hobart 210 to come in, is argon the gas of choice or are there others to consider?

Reply:Exactly.  "C-25" gas is 75% Argon and 25% Carbon Dioxide.  Start with that for MIG welding with mild steel.
Reply:What are you welding?

Reply:Dodge, read some of the threads here in the MIG, TIG forums.  Lots of pointers are given there. Then it's practice, practice, practice.  Try Fillet welds first.  The kind where you stand a small piece of strap on another piece of strap in an inverted T shape.  Weld both sides at different settings to see how things work.  Try to identify a 'cold weld' -vs- a 'too hot' weld.  Once you have that mastered, move onto butt welds, lap welds, open root welds, finally move onto sheet metal.Learn your machine & what it likes to weld at.  Sheetmetal is the toughest as it will burn through fairly easily.  Once you are comfortable with your skills, start posting pictures of your work.  Ask for a critique of the welds to improve them.  Get a thick skin & try to understand these guys have been welding many years & hear the same thing over & over again with the same answers over and over again.  Some may have a bad day & just tell you "do a search before you ask", others will post some helpful hints.Last thing.........Welcome to the World of Welding.  It's an addiction you can't quite get away from.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
